Aiming to provide accessible yoga (spiritual, physical, emotional) for all bodies through expansive love, endless joy, gratitude and laughter.
Hi, friends! I'm Joy (she/her). Operating and serving Columbus, Ohio. I've been called overly optimistic, too sensitive, and a dreamer. But I'm not the only one. And these are traits I actually really love about myself. I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder in my 20's and my doctor recommended yoga. After pushing through the anxiety of having to do something new (I mean, the cruelest of anxiety ironies) I was hooked. I found my home studio at Namaste In Love in Gahanna and eventually enrolled for their 200 hr yoga teacher training. I began with the intention of self growth and exploration but left with a strong desire to teach and spread the peace and love I found through a yogic lifestyle to all. My main goal at joy.yoga.love is to provide accessible yoga to every single body. Yoga is so much more than just the physical movement most of us have seen. Yoga is a way of life that every single race, religion, age, body type, ethnicity, etc., can enjoy. Currently, you can find me teaching at Beneath The Sycamore in Baltimore, Ohio. When I'm not teaching, I love spending time with my kids and family, reading all the books or camping and enjoying nature. An introvert and empath at heart, don't be surprised if we end up talking about our dreams and crying over shared experiences. Om Shanti.
Want to work on Asana? Learn more in depths of the Yoga Sutras or the Eight Limbs of Yoga? Maybe develop a deeper meditation practice? Breathwork? I got you! I will meet you where you're at. Completely safe and judgement free ALWAYS.
Want to book a private party class? Bridal shower, birthday party, corporate event, you name it! Let's chat.
INCLUSIVE, EQUITABLE, ALLY
Yoga is for E V E R Y O N E. My classes are safe no matter your experience level, body type, or background. It's been proven that closing your eyes and visualizing movement can have profound affects on your body. Come as you are. Take what I offer, or take savasana and visualize. Everyone is welcome here.
Equality is giving everyone, no matter race, religion, social standing, etc, the exact same thing. Equity is providing different tools for different individuals to succeed in their direct path. I believe in equity. Sunday classes, Beneath the Sycamore are free for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ individuals. You are safe, you are loved.
I am an ally. As a cisgendered, white woman, I have the responsibility to identify injustices in my community and address them by creating safe, thriving environments. If something I say or do goes against this standard, I invite anyone to bring it to my attention. I am growing and learning and striving to be the best ally I can.
YOU CAN BE AN ALLY TOO
Start by learning. Take yourself out of your comfort zone. Attend antiracist specific trainings, follow social justice workers on social media. Turn inwards and recognize subtle, implicit biases in yourself. Attend classes led by black, indigenous, people of color. If you don't know something, ask.
Join me, one Sunday each month, for some introspective, self study. These will be conversation based and topics will include all things spirituality, self growth and introspection, how to be a better ally, friend and neighbor. As long as we all remain open minded, respectful, and enter with a loving heart, nothing is off topic. Because we all come from different backgrounds and life experiences we have so much to learn about ourselves from each other.
